Research interests
Femi’s research lies at the intersection of educational psychology, learning sciences, instructional design, and technology. His work examines knowledge representation through interactive concept maps and diagrams, exploring how feedback, prior knowledge, and motivational factors shape students’ retention and knowledge transfer. He also conducts systematic reviews and meta-analyses to identify evidence-based instructional principles, contributing to theory, practice, and policy in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education. More recently, he has advanced a psychophysiological scientific paradigm for investigating the cognitive and emotional processes that underlie learning. Using indicators such as eye-tracking and skin conductance, his research uncovers how attention, cognitive load, and emotion influence learners’ engagement and performance in STEM contexts. His long-term goal is to integrate cognitive, motivational, and physiological perspectives to design more effective, accessible, and engaging learning environments.
Teaching interests
Dr. Sunday currently teaches Research Methods I and Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses, where he prepares graduate students to apply rigorous methodologies in educational research. His teaching interests extend to quasi-experimental designs and advanced educational psychology with an emphasis on multimedia learning theories. He is also developing future courses on neuroscience and psychophysiology in education, aiming to integrate insights from brain and physiological processes into the design of effective, evidence-based instructional practices.
