Future Teachers in Community

Future Teachers in Community – FTIC

Future Teachers in Community (FTIC) is a professional learning community designed to support and empower future educators as they grow into reflective, collaborative, and community-centered teachers.

Grounded in the principles of the Framework for Teaching, FTIC fosters professional responsibility, meaningful relationships, and a commitment to equitable practice. The program builds on a longstanding legacy of supporting aspiring educators while evolving to meet the needs of today’s future teachers.

Through mentorship, teacher education application support, skill-building workshops, and peer collaboration, members strengthen their professional identity while developing the habits of effective educators — preparation, reflection, communication, and community engagement.

FTIC creates a supportive space where future teachers connect, lead, and prepare to make a lasting impact in their classrooms and communities.

Vision Statement

FTIC envisions a future in which all aspiring educators—especially those historically underrepresented in education—have the support, opportunities, and community needed to thrive as leaders who shape inclusive, equitable, and impactful learning environments.

Program Components

Student Ambassadors

Each year, FTIC selects undergraduate education students to serve as program ambassadors. Ambassadors help lead recruitment, support programming, and coordinate events. Their work strengthens community connections and ensures the program remains responsive to student needs. Ambassadors receive a $2,000 scholarship from the James Taylor Future Teachers Endowment

Signature Events & Professional Learning

FTIC hosts signature talks, workshops, and professional development activities throughout the year. These experiences focus on teaching strategies, field preparation, leadership development, and community engagement.

Teacher Education Information Sessions

Sessions held each semester provide guidance on admission requirements and support students as they transition into the Teacher Education Program.
