Undergraduate Athletic Training

Athletic trainers specialize in preventing, diagnosing, and treating musculoskeletal injuries and medical illnesses. They are often the first healthcare providers at injury scenes and also work in various healthcare settings like physician offices and hospitals. WSU’s athletic training program has been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education since 1974. The five-year program offers a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine and a Master of Athletic Training, with over 2,000 hours of clinical education. Students gain hands-on experience with Division-I Athletics, local high schools, physical therapy clinics, and other healthcare facilities. Program requirements For the major

Sport Management (major and minor)

A degree in sport management equips students with the theoretical knowledge, professional skills, and hands-on experience needed for success in the field. Faculty teach subjects like management, marketing, communication, finance, and law, showing how these apply to sports. The program includes 180 hours of practicum experience and a final internship to prepare students for careers in the sport and recreation industry. Graduates are prepared for leadership roles in a dynamic and rapidly changing industry. Career opportunities include positions in management, marketing, fundraising, communication, operations, recreation programs, and more.

Undergraduate Kinesiology

The kinesiology degree teaches students to apply knowledge from the discipline to enhance health, productivity, and quality of life. Coursework covers anatomy, philosophy, psychology, physiology, biomechanics, and motor development, with practical experience through internships and practicums. Students have access to world-class research labs and innovative teaching methods for enhanced learning. The program prepares students for various professional positions, certifications, and further education in kinesiology-related fields. Graduates pursue careers in recreation, corporate health, clinical care, wellness programs, or advance to fields like physical therapy, occupational therapy, and medicine.

Teacher Education (Elementary and Secondary)

Our curriculum prepares students to become effective K-12 teachers, leading to Washington teacher certification upon successful completion. Students gain supervised classroom experience through 200 hours of practicums and a full semester of student teaching. We offer teaching opportunities across Washington and in English-speaking schools abroad. Our faculty maintain strong connections with over 130 school districts to support students’ professional development. Students can pursue endorsements in elementary education or specialize in specific subjects like history or music, with a teacher preparation option.

Social Work Department

At WSU, our Social Work program is dedicated to preparing students to make a meaningful impact in their communities. Guided by values of service, social justice, and advocacy, we equip future social workers with the knowledge, skills, and ethical foundation needed to support individuals, families, and communities in diverse settings.

As a social work student, you will graduate ready for rewarding careers as a generalist social worker, with opportunities to work in:

WSU ROAR Program

Washington State University Responsibility Opportunity Advocacy and Respect (WSU ROAR) is a two-year inclusive postsecondary education program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) located in the WSU College of Education, Sport, and Human Sciences. WSU ROAR provides individualized programs of study in education, vocation, social skills, and independent living through person-centered planning.
