Teacher Education – Endorsements
Teacher Education – Endorsements
Washington State requires all teachers to hold at least one endorsement.
- Elementary (K–8) teachers will complete an endorsement in elementary education.
- Subject-specific teachers (e.g., high school history, music, agriculture) must complete the equivalent of a major in their chosen content area.
- Certified teachers can add endorsements to their valid Washington certificate.
Specific subject teaching certificate programs
Candidates who want to teach specific subjects shall declare a major and meet the degree and endorsement requirements of the subject-matter department, and complete the Secondary Education Professional Core Requirements. To enhance employment opportunities, it is recommended that candidates complete requirements for an additional endorsement.
