Additional Pathways to Add an Endorsement in Washington State

There are two additional options for adding an endorsement in Washington state listed below.  Visit the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction website for full details.

  • Test only – many endorsements can be added by passing the approved content exam and applying directly to the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction.
  • National Boards – Teachers may add an endorsement through National Board Certification if they hold a certificate issued by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS), and there is a direct equivalency between the endorsement sought and their National Board certificate area (See National Boards Endorsement Chart).
