Application Checklist/Information

Priority and Application Deadlines: This is the preferred deadline for receiving all application materials for the best chance of obtaining admission:

  • Pullman and Spokane – Fall and Summer: January 10
    • closes April 1
  • Pullman and Spokane – Spring: September 01
    • closes October 1
  • TriCities – Fall: January 31
    • closes July 01
  • TriCities – Spring: July 01
    • closes November 01
  • TriCities – Summer: January 31
    • closes April 01

Although late applications may be considered beyond the priority deadline, the department cannot guarantee an admission decision will be made prior to the start of the semester for which you apply.

NOTE: Degree and certification programs in the Department of Teaching and Learning do not accept state of Washington tuition waivers. This includes the Ph.D., masters and graduate certificate programs.

01. Know

Here’s a “checklist” of information you’ll need when you apply.

  1. WSU Graduate School general application requirements (including application fee).
    once in GradCAS search for Washington State University (program name)
  2. Current resume or vitae.
  3. Letter of Intent. The letter of intent must include:
    • the reason for pursuing a graduate degree,
    • a description of teaching or other life experience that relates to graduate study,
    • a commitment to scholarship or professional development,
    • a specific research or inquiry interest
  4. Three letters of reference. The three letters of recommendation, submitted through GradCAS, must address your:
    • interpersonal skills
    • scholarship,
    • experience with children or youth, and
    • facility with written, oral, and interpersonal communication.
  5. Complete Educational History and Transcripts from any colleges/universities:
    • Where any degrees have been granted or are expected.
    • That show any graded bachelor’s work and/or graduate-level work (including doctoral) taken after the bachelor’s degree.
    • Unofficial copies may be uploaded with your Graduate School application for application review. If admitted, you will be required to submit official copies to the WSU Graduate School.
  6. Official WSU Transcripts are NOT required for coursework taken at WSU.
  7. International Students must meet the university’s English proficiency and funding requirements. Review international student requirements.
  8. Copies of currently held education certificates.
