Our Priorities

Please consider a gift to support the College of Education, Sport, and Human Sciences’s priorities below:

WSU ROAR Scholarship Fund

As the only program of its kind in the Pacific Northwest, WSU ROAR has an enormous. positive impact on the lives of students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. However, as is true for many of their peers, cost can be a limiting factor, and most (if not all) ROAR students will depend on scholarships to complete the program. This fund supports accessibility for current and future ROAR participants.

CESHS Scholarship Fund

The College of Education, Sport, and Human Sciences Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students of all majors within the College of Education, Sport, and Human Sciences. This fund is used to recruit and retain high-performing students and to help alleviate the financial burdens of pursuing a college education. Student benefactors all say this has been a difference-maker for them to be able to go to college.

WSU ROAR Programmatic Fund

WSU ROAR offers a fully-inclusive college experience for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Through two years of person-centered planning and immersive, on-campus living, students grow as professionals, achieve independence, and join the Coug family. Gifts to this fund support educational resources, participant activities, and program needs as WSU ROAR continues to grow.

Dean’s Excellence Fund

The Dean’s Excellence Fund is one of the best and broadest ways to support the work of the College of Education, Sport and Human Sciences. This is the college’s most flexible fund and provides ongoing annual support that allows the dean to meet the immediate and strategic needs of the college. In the past, gifts to this fund have been used for student scholarships as well as support of faculty members and special programs.

A Greater Future.

From You. Through Us. To the World.

Our state has come to expect great things from the College of Education, Sport and Human Sciences. We’re known as a leader in Education, absolutely. But our alumni are changing the world in a number of fields, including fields in athletic training, kinesiology, and sport management. And the research our faculty are engaged in across a number of disciplines is cutting edge. To be clear: these endeavors are not arbitrary. They’re inspired by a greater vision for the future and guided by earnest desire to help realize that vision.

We may be a powerhouse in all these areas. Our impact may be so much greater than the sum of our parts. Our greatness may have grown to include the lives we reach and enrich, and the sustainable solutions that help transform our state and help our state’s resident.

But…. none of this can happen without you! As we continues to build a healthier, more resilient, more equitable world, we ask you keep being our partner and continue financially assisting these efforts.

Generous gifts by our donors provide scholarships and assistantships, funding for research, funding for student clubs, and a variety of other important programs. Gifts of any size help the college provide our students with an exceptional education and help our faculty pursue research to benefit students and educators around the globe. The best way to invest depends on your life circumstances and personal goals, and every gift counts! Your gifts have power!

How to give

There are a number of ways you can give to the College of Education, Sport and Human Sciences, including planned giving, endowments, and matching gifts. Many people are surprised to learn that smart estate planning can take advantage of gift planning strategies with many attractive benefits, such as increased income, reduced taxes, and an opportunity to see their gift at work.

By including the College of Education, Sport and Human Sciences in your estate or financial plans, you will make a lasting difference and provide opportunities to future generations. You can plan a gift to benefit us today or after your lifetime, often with tax benefits for you.

Endowments are a particularly powerful investment in the College of Education, Sport and Human Science’s future because they deliver a dependable, perpetual source of funding. The WSU Foundation Endowment is composed of nearly 2,000 restricted funds established by donors for specific purposes, such as named scholarships or professorships. Endowed funds are unique in that the gift is invested. Each year, a percentage of the endowment’s 36-month rolling average is distributed to benefit the University. The rest is re-invested to ensure growth, maintaining the fund’s spending power far into the future. In this respect, an endowment is intended to be a perpetual gift.

Many employers will match their employees’ donations to the College of Education, Sport and Human Sciences. Some employers will even match the gifts of retired employees, spouses, parents, and even contributions from their board of director members. All matched funds will be designated to the area to which you originally contributed your gift.

Gifts of marketable stocks or securities shares that have appreciated can have an immediate impact on a program in the College of Education, Sport and Human Sciences while creating a favorable income tax deduction for you based on the assets’ current value.

If you are 70½ years old or older, you can take advantage of a simple way to benefit the College of Education, Sport and Human Sciences and receive tax benefits in return. You can give up to $100,000 from your IRA directly to the WSU Foundation without having to pay income taxes on the money.

#CougsGive is a one-day fundraising event dedicated to expanding, sharing, and celebrating the impact of donor support at Washington State University. Generous donors are the foundation of student success, and every April, the Cougar family will come together and give to the scholarships, programs, and experiences that set WSU apart.

Noah Fitzgerald Thomas

How scholarships helped me.

“So many people helped me on my journey. They were all so kind, generous, and willing to let me grow and I am so thankful for that. I’m forever in everyone’s debt for doing this because it has helped me become the best Athletic Trainer I can be. That will be paid forward to the Athletic Training program and student scholarships.
– Noah Fitzgerald Thomas (’22)

Noah Fitzgerald Thomas is a nice young man from Centralia, WA who wanted to be an athletic trainer; it blended his love of sports with his desire to help other people. He graduated and was able to get a great job at Appalachian State University. But his heart is still with the Cougs and he is committed to continuing to help students. You can, too!

A difference you can quickly see

When you give to the College of Education, Sport and Human Sciences, for any reason, we promise you that we’ll be good stewards of that money. But when that money is given for scholarships, you can easily see how it makes a difference. Scholarships matter. And because they’re attached to individual students, the great things that they are able to accomplish is, in many ways, a testament to your generosity. This is why we work year-round to raise scholarship funds.

Thank you from a student
