Strength and Conditioning Minor

The connection between classroom theory and

real-world application.

The Mission of the Strength and Conditioning Minor is to provide hands-on experiences to expand knowledge, opportunities for professional growth and collaboration, and foster a comprehensive understanding of the science driving the field.

  • Prepares students to sit for the National Strength and Conditioning Association‘s CSCS® certification exam, the gold standard for strength and conditioning professionals.
  • 300+ hours of internship with WSU’s NCAA Division 1 athletes and coaches, in addition to affiliated sites in the community setting tailored to student’s professional goals.
  • Wide variety of professional settings possible.  The strength and conditioning minor has been able to help place graduates in collegiate and high school athletic programs, professional gyms, and sport performance centers across the country.
  • This experience also enhances non-traditional careers that have a desire to focus on athletes of all ages:  Athletic training, Physical therapy, Personal training, Sport coaching, Physical education, Chiropractic care, Tactical (military, emergency personnel) training, Occupational therapy, Gym ownership

CASCE Accredited Program Official Logo

We are the only undergraduate program in the Western United States that currently has the CASCE accreditation designation.

The WSU Kinesiology undergraduate Strength and Conditioning Minor Program is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Strength and Conditioning Education (CASCE), a recognized authority in quality strength and conditioning education. This accreditation demonstrates our commitment to upholding the highest standards of quality and excellence in our strength and conditioning program. Our curriculum, faculty, and facilities have undergone rigorous evaluation to ensure that we provide students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience necessary to excel in the field of strength and conditioning and keep athletes safe.

This designation prepares our students for the NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS®) certification. Starting in 2030, all students who wish to sit for the NSCA CSCS® certification exam must graduate from an accredited program.

Minor is required to begin the term after application is accepted

Fall: October 17, 2025

Spring:  March 20, 2026
