Peer Allies

What is a Peer Ally?

Peer Allies are undergraduate or graduate students at WSU who partner with ROAR students to support a more inclusive, connected, and welcoming college experience. Peer allies are trained through the ROAR program and work alongside students in both academic and social settings.

As a Peer Ally, you might:

  • Attend class with a ROAR student
  • Help introduce them to new friends or clubs
  • Join them at campus events, meals, or study sessions
  • Support their social connections and inclusion in the WSU community
  • Collaborate in ways tha foster mutual learning and friendship.

Being a Peer Ally is a meaningful way to gain experience in leadership, education, and inclusive practices, while building lasting and genuine relationships.

Peer Ally Roles

  • Academic Ally: Support ROAR students with class participation, assignments, and staying organized. Academic Allies often meet in the ROAR office to check in and keep each other accountable.
  • Social Ally: Join ROAR students for lunch, campus events, gym sessions, or just hanging out at the CUB. Social Allies help build connections and create opportunities for fun, friendship, and inclusion.

Ready to Become a Peer Ally?

We’d love to have you! To be eligible to be a Peer Ally, you must be a currently enrolled WSU student (any major), and you need to complete inclusive training through the WSU ROAR office.

ROAR Research and Student Access

At WSU ROAR, we welcome research that helps inform inclusive education and promotes student success. To ensure fair, ethical, and appropriate access to the ROAR student population, our leadership team actively monitors research requests. All studies involving ROAR students must go through the WSU IRB process and complete an internal Research Study Access form. This helps us balance meaningful research with our students’ academic and personal growth.
