Eligibility
General Eligibility
- Recommended age between 18 and 26
- Has a diagnosis of an intellectual and developmental disability (IDD).
- Has completed high school, with or without a standard diploma
- Is not eligible for a traditional college program, even with accommodations
- Has participated in a functional-based K-12 curriculum, received services through an IEP, or completed an alternate assessment portfolio
- Has moderate limitations in adaptive behavior and intellectual functioning, as defined by the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD)
Academic and Life Skills
- Demonstrates at least a 4th-grade reading level (students with lower levels may be considered)
- Has basic math skills and can use a calculator
- Is able to communicate with others, with or without assistive technology
- Can participate in workshops and seminars lasting 90 minutes to 2 hours
- Shows a willingness to grow in social, communication, vocational, and life skills
Independent Living and Campus Readiness
- Is eager and able to live in shared campus housing with other ROAR students
- Can function independently or with support from outside providers (e.g. DDA)
- Can self-administer medication and manage personal medical/dietary needs (Note: ROAR staff cannot dispense medication or manage specialized medical needs)
Behavior and Participation
- Demonstrates responsible and respectful behavior without supervision
- Is emotionally ready and able to participate in all aspects of the program
- Can adapt to change and transitions
- Wants to achieve personal and program goals in a college setting
- Engages in behavior that supports future WSU ROAR students being welcomed in all shared spaces
