Minimum requirements for admission to the Teacher Education Program.

  1. 80 Hours Requirement
    • 60 teaching hours: These hours must be recent educational experience with ages 4 – adult in a teaching capacity. Hours can be paid or volunteer. Experiences must be within the last 3 years (at the time of application to program).
    • 20 hours cultural hours: These hours we want you to be working with or learning about people from diverse populations and/or attend cultural events surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion. Experiences must be within the last 3 years (at the time of application to the program).
    • It is highly recommended that at least half of your hours are served with the age group you plan to teach.
    • Babysitting, serving as a nanny, or Big Brother/Sister cannot be used to fulfill this requirement.
  2. Attempt a basic skills test: West-B, SAT, ACT, or equivalent approved test in Reading, Writing and Math and have official scores reported to WSU. If you still need to meet the basic skills requirement, consider registering for the WEST-B exam. You can register for the test online.
  3. Be admitted into the major.
  4. Complete 45 semester hours of course work including:
    • English 101, with a grade of ‘C’ or better.
    • English 201, 301 or 402 with a grade of ‘C’ or better or an equivalent composition course.
    • TCH_LRN 301: Learning and Development, with a grade of ‘C’ or better.
  5. Earn a *minimum* cumulative grade point average of 2.50
  6. Interview

August 30 & January 31: The application will be live on our website.
October & March: Interviews
December & May: Admissions Committee will meet and decide who will be admitted.
