STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING MINOR CURRICULUM

Learning Outcomes

Students Who Complete The Strength And Conditioning Minor Will

  • Gain entry-level proficiency in the science of human performance knowledge
  • Bridge science theory with clinical coaching application
  • Develop evidence-based analytical thinking for unfamiliar S&C questions
  • Cultivate leadership skills
  • Foster professional relationships within the field of strength and conditioning.

Successful graduates will be proficient in the knowledge and skill areas of the learning objectives in accordance with the Council on Accreditation of Strength and Conditioning Education, CASCE.

The WSU Strength and conditioning minor provides a curriculum that reflects the curricular standards and an emphasis on experiential learning and foster professional relationships

  • more than 350 hours of internship field experience
  • includes at least one year of field experience within WSU Athletics strength and conditioning programs
  • includes collaborations with university athletics staff/coaches to ensure practical standards and professionalism
  • requires a second practicum field experience location with individualized learning objectives from a CSCS unique to the student’s career aspirations at the end of degree

Student Enrollment

  • The strength and conditioning minor has graduated over 160 students
  • Average semester cohort is 15 students, with terms as large as 17 and as small as 4
  • 2023-24 student enrollment of 21 students
  • 2023-24 retention rate of 88%
  • 2023-24 CSCS exam 1st time pass rate of 80%
  • 2023-24 Graduate placement rate:  data to be determined
    • 3 students with Graduate Assistant positions in collegiate athletics S&C programs
    • 2 students with internships in collegiate athletics S&C programs
    • 3 students employed in sports performance facilities
    • 3 students starting physical therapy DPT programs
    • 2 students in graduate school
    • 2 students in active military duty
